2 dead, at least 8 injured in crash involving Amish buggy

CANTON, N.Y. (WWNY/Gray News) - Two people died in a crash involving a pickup truck and an Amish buggy on Sunday, according to authorities in New York.At least eight other people were sent to area hospitals with injuries from the collision, which happened around 3 p.m. on County Route 25 in the town of Canton.The crash prompted a heavy response from the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, in addition to other law enforcement and rescue agencies.“I have not seen a buggy accident or accident in general, myself personally, with this number of people involved,” St. Lawrence County Director of Emergency Services Richard Rusaw said.The crash remained under investigation Monday. The sheriff’s office did not yet release information about how the crash happened or the identities of the deceased.“At the end of the day, it’s a tragic accident for all involved, from those who witnessed it, those who were involved and those who responded to it,” Rusaw said.
